Open Science in Developing Countries: A Collection of Practical Guides is a collaborative initiative dedicated to gathering actionable, context-sensitive strategies for adopting Open Science practices across the Global South. The primary output is a peer-reviewed article in Advances in Methods and Practices in Psychological Science (AMPPS, IF 13.4)—positioning the project at the intersection of methodological innovation and equity-focused research.
I am proud to co-lead as co-first author of the guide. This project brought together 45 researchers from 20 developing countries to create this hands-on toolbox for applying and scaling Open Science in diverse, resource-constrained contexts.
My involvement grew out of my fieldwork experience in rural China, where I saw firsthand how Open Science can be both a hurdle and an opportunity for scholars in the Global South. As a development studies researcher, my work often deals with questions of access, participation, and equity—issues that resonate not only in social policies but also in the way knowledge itself is produced and shared. This publication gave me the chance to reflect on these themes at a meta-level and to connect my research with broader debates on inclusivity in global academia.
Although the guide is rooted in the Global South experience, it provides practical, step-by-step resources that can support anyone interested in strengthening Open Science, making it a useful reference for students, colleagues, and training activities.
